New Bahru (Bahru meaning “New” in Malay) reflects the hope of bringing together a new creative community, and is a cheeky nod to our city’s penchant for repeating words for emphasis (like swee-swee, jalan-jalan, play-play…).

Conceptualised and curated by homegrown hospitality company The Lo & Behold Group, New Bahru showcases a different side of our city—soulful, creative, just as it is clean and efficient.

In a world where iconic pieces of heritage are too often replaced by shining skyscrapers, there’s great beauty in taking old buildings and injecting in them a new lease of life.

Much of the former Nan Chiau High School’s original architecture remains—meticulously conserved in an effort to protect a piece of our collective heritage in the process.
