This SG60, City In Session brings New Bahru to life with a month of vibrant creativity and connection. Through music, art, flavour, and creative expression, Singapore’s most thoughtful creatives and brands lead playful, inspiring experiences that celebrate the everyday acts shaping our city’s cultural soul.

Set within the historic home of Nan Chiau Girls’ High School—a space that once gave young women the chance to dream bigger—New Bahru now carries forward this legacy of possibility. Together, we will celebrate the city through our lens, one that embodies the spirit of imagination, community, and bold creative expression.

MEET OUR CULTURE COLLECTIVE

This August, something new takes root at New Bahru.

We're proud to introduce our Heads of Department — a collective of culture-shapers entrusted with co-authoring New Bahru’s next chapter. More than just an initiative, it’s a movement to empower creative voices and build community from the inside out to shape Singapore's vibrant creative landscape.

Our inaugural Heads — @tobyato, @patlaw, @aarikalee, @yk and @tracyjoyphillips — will lead community-first programmes in Art, Design, Music, Photography and Wellness. From workshops and conversations to creative collaborations, they’ll bring fresh perspective and spirit to the spaces and stories of New Bahru.

    A mini oasis of rest and restoration after SG60 years of go-go-go, with Deeply Curious Co. Unplug and step into a cosy nook made from Bayshop’s upcycled pure latex mattresses and wrapped in SOJAO’s luxe sheets. Enjoy quiet rituals like tea tastings, adult colouring sheets, and mindful reads — or rest deeper with a breathwork session and a sound bath. All designed to recharge your mind, body, and soul.

  • Field Notes: A Musical Lawn Party with @aarikalee | Head of Music

  • Drink & Doodle with @patlaw & @tobyato | Head of Design & Art

    Show up, grab a marker (+ drink), and doodle on a large roll of canvas together. We'll provide a huge single roll of canvas, and a variety of markers (fat and skinny). Local artists/illustrators will guest host and guide participants, inviting everyone to contribute to a shared artwork. The canvas will then be upcycled into bags and pouches that will be sold for charity.
